In a written statement submitted to the Human Rights Council’s sixty-first session, CAP Liberté de Conscience (CAP LC) highlights the arbitrary and inhumane detention of Russian spiritual teacher Konstantin Rudnev in Argentina. The document details how Rudnev, previously persecuted in Russia, was arrested in Argentina following a misunderstanding and the uncritical adoption of foreign accusations labeling him a “cult leader.” Despite the absence of evidence and the collapse of the trafficking narrative, he remains in pretrial detention with severely declining health, facing due process violations and inadequate medical care. This case illustrates the misuse of judicial mechanisms against spiritual minorities, representing a serious violation of the right to liberty and freedom of religion or belief. Consequently, CAP LC urges Argentine authorities to immediately release Konstantin Rudnev on both humanitarian and substantial grounds, arguing that his imprisonment is based solely on imported disinformation rather than any crime committed in Argentina.
