At the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, CAP Liberté de Conscience submitted a written statement detailing ongoing human rights violations in Sudan, emphasizing the urgent need for international attention and action. The statement highlights the severe impact of the conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and other actors on civilians, including thousands killed or injured and nearly 12 million displaced persons, making it the world’s largest displacement crisis.

The submission cites reports from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and statements from UN officials, including High Commissioner Volker Türk and Secretary-General António Guterres, to underscore the deliberate targeting of civilians, repeated attacks on displacement camps such as Zamzam, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid. Between 400,000 and 450,000 people in Darfur alone have been forced to flee again due to these assaults.

CAP Liberté de Conscience also raises concerns about foreign involvement, notably from the United Arab Emirates, which has been reported to supply weapons and military equipment to the RSF. The statement calls for condemnation of the RSF’s actions and the UAE’s support of armed violence and urges Member States to provide humanitarian aid, impose sanctions on entities fueling the conflict, investigate violations, and support peace negotiations.
