CAP Liberté de conscience is deeply concerned about the escalating crisis and human rights violations that are devastating the Amhara region in Ethiopia.
We, the undersigned organizations of Ethiopians in the Diaspora, write this letter of appeal to request an urgent action by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), UNHRC Member States, and the Delegation of the EU to the UN and Other International Organizations in Geneva to stop the ongoing human rights violations and genocide against the Amhara people of Ethiopia.
Since the creation of our association, we have been collaborating with several human rights advocacy NGOs to advance our cause.
In collaboration with international human right activist, we have published and distributed several articles and reports to the international community.
According to eyewitnesses the attacks were mainly carried out by government forces and the victims were mostly women, children and the elderly. The attacks took place for a month, since November 13, 22 until December 3, 22.
In total, two hundred eighty Amhara civilians were confirmed dead on December 3, 22. Nearly twenty thousand people managed to escape.
There are currently close to one million Amharas specifically displaced to escape ethnic based massacres from Benishangul-Gumuz, Wellega and North Shewa.
We are deeply concerned about the mass-scale massacres of civilians in war and non-war zones in Ethiopia as recently reported by Human Rights Without Frontiers.
