While the Ethiopian government continues to present the National Dialogue process to members of the diplomatic community as a path toward peace, reconciliation, and political consensus, serious concerns continue to be raised regarding the security and humanitarian situation in parts of the country.
According to reports and allegations from local sources, military operations are continuing in several areas, including Dega Damot District in the Amhara Region. These reports allege damage to religious institutions and historical sites, as well as civilian casualties, including women, children, and other vulnerable members of the community.
If confirmed, such actions would raise serious concerns under international humanitarian and human rights law. It is therefore essential that these allegations be investigated through independent, impartial, and credible mechanisms.
We call upon the international community, diplomatic missions, humanitarian organizations, and human rights institutions to closely monitor the situation, support transparent investigations, and work toward protecting civilians and promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The pursuit of peace requires accountability, transparency, and respect for the dignity and rights of every citizen.
Call for International Attention
We respectfully call upon the international community, including BBC News, Al Jazeera English, CNN International, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UN Human Rights Council), the European Union (EU), and the United Nations Security Council (UN Security Council), to closely monitor the situation, encourage independent and impartial investigations into reported violations, and support efforts to protect civilians and uphold international human rights and humanitarian law.
For the voices that cannot be heard, let the world speak.
