On 4 November 2026, CAP Freedom of Conscience will hold an information meeting on the Universal Periodic Review of Hungary in Room VII, Palais des Nations, Geneva, from 13:30 to 15:00.

Hungary is being reviewed at a singular moment. Following the elections of April 2026, a new Government was formed in May 2026 and will present its own evaluation and measures during the session. The national report on the table reflects the previous administration and acknowledges very limited progress since the last review.

United Nations documentation for this session records persistent concerns about freedom of religion or belief: administrative and judicial measures affecting minority religious communities, proceedings concerning confidential religious records, and a church registration framework that conditions recognition on political majorities.

This meeting is not an indictment of the past. It is an invitation. Dialogue has opened between communities once targeted and the new authorities. The Universal Periodic Review offers a neutral forum for the new Government to set out how it will correct inherited errors and align Hungarian law with international obligations.

A moderated panel, followed by an exchange with the audience, will bring together CAP Freedom of Conscience, a legal expert and representatives of affected communities. A representative of the Hungarian delegation is warmly invited to participate.
